Silent Scream

Life sharpened
Dragged slowly, indifferently
Across taut souls
Stretched fabric

A silent scream
No expressionists painting
Cavernous, unvoiced pain
Contorting sound waves
Deforming perception

Grimaced muscles
Frozen into a smile
Bleak reassurance
Soul’s wounds
Do not show

Life’s mundane banality
Continues, pedantic
In its ordinariness
Uninterested in the souls

We must live
This pedantic banality
To give our souls
Time, to learn the song
Behind the silent scream
