Do You Regret?

When River Styx chilled your toes
And filled your lungs with misty death
Did you regret?

You said before
You had none – no regrets
You’d do it all again

You’d do it once more
Convinced of its worth

Familial love neglected
Spurned for
Distant divinity

While countless sung your sainthood
Your son in silence sat
Aware your sainthood stood on clay feet

Did you regret?
That love was not enough
When you breathed your last

Did you regret?
Do you regret?

Regret is wasted on the dead
